Our Brief Italian Wine Guide

Map of Italy | Our wines from this region

SICILY is just a beautiful island with astonishing light properties and the clearest ocean.
It has many unique grape varieties that make very different and excellent wines. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah have been grown here for many years and are also used with large success to make interesting blends with local grapes.
Whites- look for Ansonica, Inzolie, Catarratto, Grillo and also Chardonnay. Several of these varietiies have uniques properties that match them with food that other wines can't handle.
Nero D'Avola is the dominant red making stunning wines, also 'Super-Sicilians' blends with Cab, Merlot etc. Althogh alcohol is often big it is usually well balanced. Sangiovese here is 'softer' & less tannic than Tuscan Sangiovese.

Many of both these red & white varieties can be paired with chili spiced dishes.

Interesting dessert wines from Pantelleria- a small island to the South.

FIRRIATO
is one of the oldest family owned wine businesses in Sicily on the extreme East Coast in TRAPANI. The winery is now large in comparison to many but still focuses on Sicilian grapes and the production of true Sicilian characteristics. The selection process is very strict to produce the top range of wines - which we import. The reds are very powerful and yet the alcohol is not so obvious when drinking, allowing the true characteristics of the grape to come through and match food.

Sicily has many indigenous grape varieties and we focus on these varieties to bring you different wines. We try to avoid the obvious International varieties.

Firriato has excellent examples of Nero D'Avola, Perricone, Ansonica, Inzoglie, Grecanico, Cattarratto, Grillo and other varieties unique to this beautiful island.

The HARMONIUM, 100% Nero D'Avola riserva is just sensational!

The new Feudi Bardonaro selection is now released.
